Natural-Looking Dentures Can Give Colorado Springs Patients Back Their Smile

DenturesAs hard as we work to save our patients’ natural teeth, sometimes teeth must be extracted. This can be due to severe tooth decay or damage, malnutrition, periodontitis, bone loss, or other factors. Whatever the reason, having teeth extracted is not the end of the world. In fact, it’s not even the end of your beautiful smile. Thanks to modern denture technology, you can enjoy a whole (or partial) new set of teeth that are both attractive and functional.

Modern Denture Technology Gives You Options

So what’s different about today’s dentures? First of all, you have a lot more options than you once had. For most full or partial dentures, you can choose a fitted, easily removable denture that are custom made to rest on the soft tissue of your gums on your jawbones. You can also choose an implant-supported denture, as well.

With implant-supported dentures, you can say goodbye to denture adhesive because your dentures will actually rest on a set of implants instead of on your jawbone. Like traditional dentures, implant-supported dentures are easily removable, but instead of being temporarily glued into place, they snap into place on their implant supports. This system gives them a lot of stability and a very natural, attractive look.

Full vs. Partial Dentures

Full DenturesWhen you think of dentures, you may have an image in your head of a full set of upper and lower teeth, but that’s not always the case. Sometimes a patient will only need to have their lower or upper teeth extracted and replaced. Sometimes they’ll only need to have a partial denture for a section of teeth or even for a single tooth.

Whether you need partial or full dentures will depend a great deal on the state of your existing teeth, how much bone mass you have in your jaw, and the health of your gums. When you visit us at our dental practice in Colorado Springs, we will be happy to discuss all of your denture options and help you determine the best route for your teeth and your confidence.

Are Dentures Right for You?

Many people who have a number of missing teeth will choose dentures over dental implants. While a single dental implant is a great solution for a tooth that needs to be extracted, multiple implants can be problematic.

Instead of having a lot of posts implanted and single dental crowns made, patients can choose to have only four implants performed to hold an entire set of upper or lower teeth. Other patients choose dentures because they do not have enough bone mass in their jaws to support implants. Still others choose them because they are cost-effective, non-invasive, attractive, and easy to care for. Ask our dentist if dentures are right for you.

Caring for Your Denture

Dentures Colorado SpringsCaring for your denture is as easy as caring for natural teeth. In fact, some patients say that it’s actually easier. You’ll want to remove and rinse out your denture after meals. Then, when you remove your dentures, be sure to rinse your mouth thoroughly before replacing them. Brush your denture at least once a day, and they should last you for years and give you the bright, white smile you’ve been missing.
