When you hear the phrase “root canal”, do you immediately cringe and cover your mouth? Root canal therapy has a bad reputation as being a painful procedure that no one wants to go through. However, with advancing endodontic technology and methods, that reputation is undeserved.
Root canal treatment (also called endodontic therapy) is performed when decay or damage to a tooth has progressed beyond the enamel to the soft pulp inside the tooth. When this occurs, the pulp almost inevitably becomes infected and begins to decay. If this continues, the root canals become infected, causing an abscess or bone loss at the root, and the tooth will need to be extracted.
To prevent tooth removal, we perform a root canal treatment to drill out the decayed pulp and replace it with an inert material or structural pins or posts to increase the strength of the tooth. A temporary filling is then put in place until we make and install a dental crown for the affected tooth. Our goal at HollowBrook Dental is always the health, treatment, and results of our patients. We take all necessary steps to guarantee you are aware of your treatment options..
